How To Activate a Phone with an eSIM

What is a Phone?

A mobile phone is a portable telephone that can make and receive calls over a radio frequency link while the user moves within a telephone service area, as opposed to a fixed-location phone.

How To Activate a Phone with an eSIM

  1. First, you need to get the QR code from our support team.
  2. Go to Settings> Cellular Data / Mobile Data.
  3. Tap add a cellular plan/ Mobile Data Plan.
  4. Scan QR code.
  5. In the case of new activation, registration will be done by the eSIM support team.
  1. How do I confirm if my device is eSIM enabled?

Customers can check this by dialing *700*6#

Alternatively, customers can dial *#06# on their device.

The barcodes will display EID (ESIM Identifier) numbers to confirm eSIM capability. If no EID is displayed, then your device is not eSIM compatible.

You can also go to Settings > About > Status info. If your device is eSIM compatible, the EID field will be visible in the displayed menu.

  1. Can I have more than one (1) eSIM profile on my device?

Yes, most devices allow you to have more than 5 profiles on the devices.

  1. How does one (1) get an eSIM?

eSIM can be acquired from any Vodafone retail shop nationwide.

Enterprise customers may contact their account managers or use the Vodafone Enterprise Request Portal – https://myvodafone.vodafone.com.gh/enterprise-request/app/ and follow the steps below

  • Select “Mobile Services”
  • Select “Add a Request”
  • Select “Esim activation”
  • Fill request form and upload a list of all phone numbers
  • Submit request
  1. Can I use the same eSIM on different devices?

No, please note, that if you have installed an eSIM profile for a specific number into one device, you cannot install the same eSIM voucher onto another device. You will need to request an eSIM replacement from any of our retail centers.

  1. How do I convert my physical SIM to eSIM?

SIM Swap will be performed on your traditional SIM, and you will be given an eSIM voucher (QR code) to scan and download a profile. Once this is successful, your traditional SIM will be deactivated, and the number will be active on the eSIM.

  1. How much does it cost to acquire a new eSIM profile?

Vodafone eSIM is free.

  1. Can one eSIM be used for different devices?

No. Each device needs to be connected to a unique profile. You are unable to connect one profile to multiple devices at a time.

  1. How long does it take for my eSIM request to be processed?

Walk into any of our retail shops and complete the process in about 10mins.

  1. Do I require data to download my eSIM profile?

Yes, you will need to be connected to an alternate source of internet, via mobile data or Wi-Fi to download the eSIM profile.

  1. Can I use my physical SIM together with an eSIM on my mobile device?

No, you can only have one active SIM/eSIM attached to the network at a time.

  1. Can I have two active ESIM profiles from different networks? Like Vodafone and another network in Ghana?

Yes, you can have multiple profiles from different networks. However, unlike iPhone where you may have up to 2 eSIMs active at a time, for Samsung and other Android devices you can have only one eSIM and one traditional SIM active at any instance.
