What is Gas Card?
A fuel card or fleet card is used as a payment card most commonly for gasoline, diesel, and other fuels at gas stations. Fleet cards can also be used to pay for vehicle maintenance and expenses at the discretion of the fleet owner or manager. Most fuel cards are charge cards.
How To Activate a New Gas Card
Insert your card into the card slot in the gas card meter and leave it in the meter for at least 15 seconds. Remove the gascard and bring it to a Payzone outlet to purchase credit on the card (see next section).

Why is my gas card saying card not accepted?
If the screen displays “Card Not Accepted”, wipe your card with a clean cloth and try again. Make sure you’re using the correct card for the meter. Remember, only one card can be registered to an individual meter at any one time.

Here are a couple of simple fixes for a gas prepayment card that’s not working:
- Check your receipt. You’ll need to try topping up again if your receipt it says ‘Cancelled’ or ‘Failed’.

You can still top up without having a smart card if you have your smart card number. It’s a 19-digit number written on your smart card. If you have this number saved, you can use it to top up at our smart meter top-up page or at your local Payzone.

If you’re a Smart prepayment customer, logging into your online account is the fastest and easiest way to top up. You don’t need your smart card number, and if you save your debit or credit card, future top ups are even quicker.
Do gas cards expire?
No, there is no expiration date on your Exxon and Mobil Gift Card. We recommend that you use the card soon after you receive it though, so you don’t forget about it!

You simply swipe the card, enter your PIN number (if needed), select the type of gas you want to buy and then start pumping the gas. Though you’ve probably paid at the pump with a debit or credit card hundreds of times, you may not know that the transaction works differently than your typical card payment.
