To activate the frame and turn it into a real portal, use your flint and steel on any of the blocks. A purple haze will fill the frame. Jump into the haze and stand there for a few seconds, and you’ll be transported to the Nether.

How do you build and activate a nether portal?
A Minecraft Nether Portal is made by building a rectangular frame of Obsidian blocks, and then lighting the inside of the frame with a Flint and Steel. The frame can be anywhere from 4×5 to 23×23 blocks in size, so you can choose the width and height of your Portal within these bounds.
Why is nether portal not activating?
One could be that the portal is in the wrong shape. The portal has to be 3 blocks vertically INSIDE the portal. If you jump in the portal frame, you should be able to jump up one block. It also has to be 2 blocks wide horizontally.
How long do Nether portals last?
When a player in the Overworld or the Nether stands in a nether portal block for 4 seconds, the player is taken to the other dimension. The player can step out of a portal before it completes its animation to abort the teleport.
Can I have two nether portals?
Yes, you can have multiple active nether portals, but if they’re close enough together (since the nether is 8x smaller than the overworld), I have found that they sometimes may link up to the same portal in the overworld.
Where can I find Netherite?
To get Netherite you’ll need to mine Ancient Debris first, which can only be found in the Nether. When you enter the Nether you’ll need to mine until you reach Y level 8-15. Most Ancient Debris will spawn at Y level 15. Once you get at the Y level, begin mining as you would normally.
How do you make Netherite?
You’ll need to combine four Netherite Scraps and four Gold Ingots in order to get one Netherite Ingot. Since you’re upgrading your tools rather than making new ones from scratch, all your enhancements on your Diamond items will still be there once you upgrade to Netherite.
What is crying obsidian used for?
It is used to make the respawn anchor, a block that has the function of letting players respawn in the Nether. When placed, crying obsidian occasionally produces purple dripping particles, as if it is “crying”. These droplets are purely decorative.
Can you light a nether portal with a flame bow?
Simply shoot a fire arrow at the inside of a nether portal frame to light it. For that to happen flame arrows wold need to set blocks on fire.
